Runkeeper: I’ll give it 3.9 out of 5 stars!
My iPod nano went mysteriously missing just a few weeks after my last race. I remember bringing it on a butte jog in a fanny pack and I’m convinced it fell out and lives in nature, or I’ll find it in like a year. 😦 😦 this was a pretty painful loss because I have NEVER been a fan of running with my phone, it’s too big and those armbands are always awkward on me and I hate holding it in my hand.
Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise though because it has forced me to use my phone and now I can use the popular running app Runkeeper, which I am really enjoying! It’s fun to see my routes, know my average pace without having to calculate it, and track miles for the week. I haven’t used the goal setting feature but I likely will when I register for my next running challenge. I also find myself typing a few sentences in the notes section after every run as I walk to cool down which is an awesome feature! It’s awesome to look at a run from two weeks ago and read that my right knee started feeling funny around mile 4 and that I noticed my arch collapsing, etc. I imagine when I decide to get my next pair of running shoes these notes will come in super handy!
I only have 2 complaints/suggestions, one is legitimate and the other is kinda silly. The first is that the app will speak every 5 minutes with your distance and pace, unless you can figure out a way to change this feature (please let me know if there is a way!!!) I would rather be able to press a button when I want to know distance and pace rather than hearing it every 5 minutes and missing the best part of whatever song or audiobook I’m listening to. The second kind of silly complaint is that you can pause your work out but the clock keeps running until you end the session. So basically if you are going on a 6 mile run at a 10 minute pace and pause at mile 3 to do a lets say 15 minute strength work out then continue your final time will be 75 minutes but pace would still be 10 minutes. Idk it’s not a huge deal at all it just kind of gets confusing.
All and all, it’s a great app! And it’s free!
Anyone else use this app or have a different running app they prefer? Would love to hear what else is out there!
